How to Acquire Stamps : Page 151

While most stamps are not affected by even prolongedimmersion in water, there are a few which have solublecolors which would tend to strain the other stamps beingsoaked. For that reason it is advisable not to soak toomany stamps at one time.

Caution

Certain stamps may not be subjected to the rude proc-ess noted in the foregoing. Among these would be certainBritish and British colony stamps that have been printedon "chalky surface" paper — in other words coated papersuch as is commonly used for "slick" paper magazines. Ifthe surface of the paper appears "glossy" it should notbe soaked in water. To make sure mark the edge of thestamp with an ordinary ten cent piece (any real silver willdo). If the paper is "chalky surface" the edge of the dimewill leave a black mark.
