The Advanced Collection : Page 265
Elaborate colored borders around your album pagesmay be very beautiful — indeed, they may be actual worksof art — but such ornamentation is not stamps and youare entering an exhibit of stamps in competition withother exhibits of stamps. Ornamentation is a difficult sub-ject to handle and most often detracts from the stampson display. Under no circumstances should any ornamen-tation of the pages be of such nature as to make thestamps of secondary importance.
A frontispiece to introduce your collection is permis-sible but, however attractive, will have little bearing onthe judges' decision.
These observations are made as the result of manyyears of experience with stamp exhibitions of all kinds aslayman and as judge. The person who would have hisstamp collection judged in competition must first, last, andalways exhibit STAMPS. All else is secondary.
